I would avoid this cable if you are not comfortable soldering, because I think all original xboxes are at the age when the capacitors will cause this issue. I think that Hyperkin should revise this cable, and include an option to externally power their cable. It is important that the brown ground wire remains intact because the audio and vide signals of the Xbox need it to complete their circuit.Īfter I added my own 5v power source, that I plug into the USB outlet on my television, the picture and audio is crystal clear. Cut the 5v power feed from the Xbox connector side (purple wire on mine, also labelled 5v on the PCB), and solder a generic USB power cable + to the 5v pin on the PCB that the purple wire goes to and - to the pin that the brown ground wire is connected to. What I did to fix the problem, was open up the box on the Hyperkin Panorama cable. The 5v power from the Xbox is not clean, probably caused by aging capacitors. I believe the issue comes from a problem in the Xbox itself. The picture had a ton of noise and wavy lines. When I got this cable, I experienced the same issue a lot of other people have. I would investigate other options before purchasing, there could be better products that may completely remove wavy lines and fix the dashboard, or maybe this is as good as it gets? Quite odd, but considering this doesn't occur in gameplay I think it doesn't particularly matters.ĭespite this, I'm unsure whether or not I recommend this. Must be the way power is used or something on the dashboard or something. The second you go into any game this issue immediately disappears. What I mean is that the wavy lines and noise are very noticeable (and bad) and the screen will constantly go black for seconds at a time. I should also state that the dashboard looks significantly worse than what any game you'll play on this will be. This may seem bad, but when thinking about the image quality of many CRTs that these consoles were originally running on, this is still an improvement. There is a mildly noticeable level of noise and some VERY faint wavy lines that can only be seen on completely solid color images.
I have cleaned and soldered certain internal parts so that may have remediated ahead of time the possible issues. This means most games will look quite bad on any screen larger than 30in.Īs for the noise and wavy lines, I didn't have as much of an issue with that compared to others. It can make the *few* games that had HD resolutions run at those settings, but most games will output only at 480p. This does make it easier to plug an old Xbox into modern TVs, but it doesn't actually upscale games: it just sets them to the highest resolution from when the said games launched.
